PHIL ARNOTT
Phil Arnott became an apprentice fitter after leaving school. After studying engineering at Hull College of Technology he worked for ten years as a design engineer in the aircraft industry. He then moved to working in the IT Industry where he spent a total of twenty years, the final five years as an IT consultant. He is a qualified angling coach and when not fishing spends much of his time coaching and representing anglers on various bodies.
He has had a life long interest in all aspects of British Natural History and has a wide knowledge of birds, mammals, butterflies, moths, wild flowers and of course, fish, both freshwater and marine.
He has fished from the age of seven indulging in all forms of angling. He has caught many specimen coarse fish from the East Riding of Yorkshire including roach, rudd and perch over 2lb, barbel over 8lb, bream over 10lb, tench over 7lb, chub over 5lb, thirty-two pike over 20lb including one of 32¾lb.
He has sea-fished extensively in south-west Scotland, North Wales, Cornwall and south-west Ireland catching over fifty-five species of sea fish from the shore including a 35lb stingray and a 35lb tope. From the early Seventies to the late Eighties he was a successful match angler, winning eleven open matches and twenty-nine matches while fishing in various clubs and leagues, this representing a win rate greater than one third. In 1973 he invented the first rig to clip the bait down for distance casting. He has written articles on shore fishing for a number of angling publications.
