The Treatise of Fishing with an Angle
Andrew Herd

This fine Medlar edition celebrates the production of the original Treatise of Fishing with an Angle. Its over five-hundred years since The Treatise (arguably written by one Dame Julians Berners), was hand-printed by letterpress by Wynkyn de Word (William Caxton's apprentice) at Westminister in 1496. It was certainly the first book on angling printed in the English language, and The Medlar Treatise is accompanied by a new, page-by-page translation by Andrew Herd, a fascinating exploration into the history of fishing in the fifteenth century and an insight into the legend of the mysterious Dame Juliana. The facsimile is bound in finest cream leather with hand-made endpapers and slip-cased with the transcript.
