The Hardy Book of the Salmon Fly
Keith Harwood
Since 1873, Hardy has included hundreds of salmon flies in its annual Anglers’ Guides. In this book Keith Harwood has chosen fifty patterns, which are representative of the history of the salmon fly and of Hardy’s association with it. Included are some of the well-known classics such as the Jock Scott, Durham Ranger and Green Highlander, as well as some of the more recent hair wing patterns like the Hairy Mary and General Practitioner. Also included are a number of patterns which graced the pages of the Anglers’ Guides, but which are now largely forgotten. Most of the flies illustrated have been tied by the author especially for this book.
' There's a good introduction to salmon flies and Hardy's place in their hierarchy, superb pictures of the flies and a smattering of text on each . . . this doesn't set out to be a textbook; it's simply a pleasant little book celebrating Hardy's role in popularising some of the great flies. And there's a lot more information here than it seems at first glance. An ideal gift . . . and very well produced.' - Classic Angling
