First published (as Barbel and Chub) in 1896 by J.W. Martin (the 'Trent Otter') this book has become known as a great barbel classic, and extremely difficult to get hold of in its original form. This Medlar edition, is, as the title page says,  'A Working Man Angler's Experiences: written expressly for the benefit of his brethren of the Craft.' From characteristics of the species to tackle, bait and where and how to fish for them, this book has it all. Illustrated by Paul Cook. Collectors will appreciate the unusual sprinkled calf bindings on all leather copies.
